Staff Accountant

Position Overview

  • Reports to Director of Accounting
  • Full Time position located in Bethesda, Maryland (Washington DC metro area)
  • Relocation not provided for this position

The Staff Accountant’s role is to be responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of financial accounting data and reports, day to day processing of accounting transactions, assisting with the preparation of monthly and year-end financial reports, preparing government reporting, and performing account analyses. The successful candidate will also act as a resource during the annual external audit by providing account analyses and supporting documentation as requested.

Key Tasks

  • Prepare accounting entries relating to general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory and payroll activities
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of transaction review and entry
  • Process treasury transactions (wires, ACH, etc.)
  • Maintain reconciliations of key balance sheet accounts
  • Provide detailed analyses and explanations of transactions
  • Process time and material data, analyze job cost reports, and draft monthly reports for government contracts
  • Perform month-end closing activities and draft the financial reporting package
  • Act as a resource during the annual external audit by providing supporting documentation as requested
  • Assist, as needed, in special projects and the implementation of changes in FASB/GAAP
  • Liaison with manufacturing, engineering, sales and marketing, customer support and R&D teams for transaction support

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 3-5 years of related accounting experience required
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables
