Accounting Director

About the Opportunity
We are seeking an Accounting Director to work in our corporate office, located in Bethesda, MD. The ideal candidate will have a strong entrepreneurial spirit and relevant experience in accounting for the life sciences to help drive and support significant projected growth as the first FDA-cleared medical device to assess the full spectrum of traumatic brain injury.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities across Accounting, Finance, Government Contracting and Human Resources functions
  • Directs, performs and coordinates all accounting activities of the Company, managing the full cycle of accounting including monthly and quarterly closes, cash management, revenue recognition, and financial reporting
  • Directs accounting and ERP systems and internal commercialization activities, including order processing, sales-to-cash process, cost accounting and inventory management
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual operating budgets and analyzes actual operating results against budget and prior periods
  • Work closely with product development and commercial teams to solve complex business challenges and ensure appropriate and fiscally responsible spend to achieve company goals
  • Work closely with CFO on financing and investor relations
  • Responsible for monthly management, accounting and administration of government contracts; will play key role in preparing pricing proposals and contracting for future grant/research contracts
  • Manages annual audits, corporate tax filings, stock option program, corporate insurance arrangements, and special projects
  • Works closely with HR on payroll processing and administering all benefits programs (health, life and disability benefits and 401k plans)
  • Supervises Accounting staff

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred
  • Minimum 8-10 years of Accounting experience, including experience at a mid- to large-size life sciences company.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment a plus
  • Strong understanding of Accounting and GAAP guidelines
  • Solid experience with Microsoft Office functions, including advanced knowledge of Excel and aptitude in modeling / quantitative methodologies
  • Detail-oriented, organized individual with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Demonstrated exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Operate effectively in a multi-disciplinary, team-oriented culture that emphasizes professional development
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment with a desire to build and automate a function to scale
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
